Tintown

Perched in the foothills of the Slatetop Mountains near the Trident River, sits the broken city of Tintown. Machines of all kinds jut out of the ground like metal stalagmites, most of the mechanical functions have been lost to time, although a few landmarks such as the esteemed airship manufacturer, Capran Corp, still retain their former glory. The city is a prominent destination for inventors. Currently, Tintown operates as a major point of exporting for the neighboring cities and villages.   Tintown is well-known for its heated streets and fully operating mechanical sewer system. The most famous of its landmarks is the Tintown Bridge, a massive suspension bridge, which is also the only passage for large caravans crossing the Trident. Tintown is the most populated city in the southern region of the Tritos Dominion.   The city boasts contemporary comforts not found within other parts of the Tritos Dominion. Many of its citizens are proud to live in an environment powered solely by ingenuity rather than magic.

Geography

Tintown is built against the Slatetop Mountains in the Tritos Dominion, a land of grand elevations and remarkable views. Towering fifty-foot walls sit in a semi-circle around the city, carved directly into the mountains. Automatic gates can be found at two points along the road, opening and closing in succession as caravans are let through.   Eastward, outside its walls, a metallic structure of wire hangs across the Trident River. Most commonly called the Tintown Bridge, this suspension bridge has long been a marvel on Pathriam, having stood for over a thousand years. At the southern border, the Emerald Wood thins out as it reaches the city.

Demographics

Tintown has a population consisting mostly of humans, though many inventors from Gnome's Landing and people from the surrounding areas often stay in the city, enjoying the luxuries the old technology still provides.   At any given time there are between 2,000 to 6,000 Civil Legion in the city.

History

In 4,963 DA, when the land was still called Sarros and formed part of the Civil Kingdom, Tintown took its first steps. Its founders envisioned the land to house an inventive city that pushed boundaries; they aptly called this place "The City of Tomorrow."   King Hadar Rath pledged to provide funding to the greatest architects of the age if they could build him an impenetrable city, safeguarded against dragons. The inventors succeeded, erecting the City of Tomorrow into the Slatetop Mountains.   Following its construction, the city put all its wealth into creating a device known as the Wyatt Apparatus. The invention was anticipated to completely revolutionize the world and make magic obsolete. Sadly, too many creators, concepts, and aims caused its downfall. In the aftermath, The City of Tomorrow lost its near bottomless funding.   After three centuries, the city was mostly deserted and only used as an outpost for the military. Then in 5,691 DA, King Caraconne Tritos decided to restore the location by employing Gnome's Landing with the task of repairing what had been lost over time. To make this process more efficient the workers tried their best to use existing machinery as foundations wherever it was possible.   In the last 50 years, the Tritos Dominion began to rely heavily on Capran Corp's airships for military transportation, providing the company with a massive contract. Now called Tintown, the city has become a major export hub and military outpost, with Capran Corp as one of its pivotal industrial components. Sadly the town has more recently been ravaged by plague and disease.   The Civil Legion, mainly composed of Shatterstaves, has restricted the city to mitigate illness. As they hold magic accountable for most of Tintown's difficulties, the Shatterstaves are turning towards non-magical methods of aid. Magister Reshep Eliot is directing the Shatterstaff Legionnaires under his command.   With the succession of Frijring and Serawa from the Tritos Dominion, instability has struck much of the kingdom. Problems with shipping and food have caused major problems for the Duke and Duchess. They have been putting additional pressure on Baron Druceff of Dondarian, asking him to increase crop yield and shipments.

Government

Tintown falls under the rule of the King of Ania, leader of the Tritos Dominion. The city is run by Duke Jamison Charmont and Duchess Augusta Charmont who are in charge of the welfare of the southern region of the country.   Civil Legion troops stationed in Tintown operate under the order of House Charmont and are under the direct command of Magister Reshep Eliot.

Crime

Tintown has minor issues with crime, mostly centered around theft and vandalism of the old machines. The laws in the city are strict and anyone caught is placed in public stocks near the gates by the Tintown Bridge.

Defenses

The Crown of Ania maintains a large military presence in Tintown. The city was built to withstand heavy assaults, founded with defense in mind. Moreover, the Capran Corp airships, while currently grounded, once provided an aerial advantage in military operations.   The outer walls are made from stone, reinforced, and covered in steel. They stand fifty feet tall and thirty feet thick with large parapets found along their length. The city stands with its back against the base of the mountain.   Prototype ballista provided by Gnome's Landing line the outer walls, built to take dragons from the sky. The design is a coveted gnomish secret.

Industry & Trade

The majority of trade in Tintown is centered around the exports of raw materials to the Slatetop Post, Gnome's Landing, and Ania. An essential contributor to this booming trade is Capran Corp, a legacy airship manufacturer founded by the late visionary, Lacy Capran, and now helmed by her son, Kymer Capran. Unfortunately, the corporation's operations have been disrupted since the departure of their skilled engineers in the aftermath of Serawa's independence. Nevertheless, the city is also known for its unique inventions, many of which are made by independent inventors who come from all over the Tritos Dominion. From blacksmithing to mechanical engineering, the city is teeming with talented professionals honing their craft.   Tintown is almost entirely reliant on the farmlands of the southern region for food, getting regular shipments from Dondarian and Bastor.

Guilds & Factions

The Civil Legion. The Civil Legion is a formidably trained military that serves the Crown of Ania and the Tritos Dominion. They are the soldiers and guards of the kingdom, fighting where the King of Ania decrees. In Tintown they serve under the direction of the Duke and Duchess and their direct commander is Magister Reshep Eliot.   The Shatterstaves. The Shatterstaves are a specialized military unit focusing on killing those with arcane abilities. The group works out of the Tritos Dominion and serves the Crown of Ania. They are known for being efficient and brutal in their methods. Most citizens believe that this is a step back to the old-ways, with regular protests seen in the capital.   Shatterstaves in Tintown are under the direct command of Magister Reshep Eliot. There is currently a disproportionate amount of Shatterstaves to Civil Legion troops stationed in the city.
