Bastor

The port of Bastor rests between the prongs of the Trident on the windswept eastern shoreline of the Gyre Ocean, within the Tritos Dominion. Navigating this treacherous, marshy terrain is only attempted by land when absolutely necessary. Almost all who arrive in Bastor do so by sea. The city itself has stood proud for many generations as a crabbing and fishing community. However, with much of the area decimated by recent disasters, many of its inhabitants have been left destitute, struggling to reconstruct their lives.   Still, buoyed by the renowned elven resort Mi'r Oenya, Bastor is home to a flourishing community of the Kamihikari Clan who are determined to help the city recover from its misfortune. Despite being viewed as outsiders, the Kamihikari have earned the respect and admiration of their neighbors.

Geography

Bastor is a coastal city nestled between the Gyre Ocean prongs of a three pronged river known as the Trident. It is a boggy land prone to sea storms, hurricanes, and flooding. The eastern portion of the city, contains ports, a large shipyard, and old ruined battlements a bit further into the ocean. The area's unique brackish waters, a mix of both freshwater and saltwater, create a distinctive environment conducive to specialized agriculture, including the cultivation of the regional dippleberries.

Demographics

The permanent residents of Bastor are primarily fishermen, crabbers, and folks of the sea. Tourists flow through the port but rarely touch the city, instead finding their way to Mi'r Oenya, where there is a large population of Eshanan elves who work and reside there. Due to recent conflicts, there is a contingent of homeless who have set up camps near the downtown businesses.   While the majority of the population follows the teachings of Lothoren, the Church of the Eastern Trinity serves as a gathering place of many faiths, whether visitor or local.

History

Bastion Fleet was once the second seat of power for the country of Innex, what is now known as the Tritos Dominion. The city served as a major port town and military power. The navy of Bastion Fleet was the pride of southern Innex. In the year 4,445 DA a red dragon known as Scaborous the Pure destroyed a large portion of the city and the entirety of its fleet. The city never fully recovered.   In the years that followed the city became Bastor, leaving behind its old identity. Instead of military might the focus shifted toward industry, reclaiming the seas nearby. Although it is not as critically important of a port town as Kantier or Staffons, Bastor remains a vital connection point between the country of Leng and the Tritos Dominion.   Within the last year Bastor has suffered multiple disasters and has seen little aid from the Crown of Ania. On the 16th day of Moonstone, in the year 4 UE, a hurricane struck the city, causing massive damage to the docks and shipping lane. In the days that followed, a red dragon of unknown origin struck the relief caravans coming from Dondarian. The Crown has mostly forsaken this place, and in its absence the elves of the Kamihikari Clan have been arriving and establishing themselves in increasing numbers.

Government

Bastor is ostensibly under the governance of Ania and the Tritos Dominion, yet has gone without necessary support from its rulers for quite some time. Baron Druceff was once responsible for local affairs but hasn't been spotted in Bastor since the Demon War. In a bid to restore their beloved city to its former state, Duchess Augusta Charmont of Tintown has taken over the Port Authority and appointed Aerin and Alma Estuary, the estranged children of the Baron, as leaders.

Crime

Crime has been a major problem in the city, caused by the scarcity of actual authority and a large homeless population. This sad state of affairs has resulted in an exponential rise in theft and destruction of property. Lawmaster Raice has been working tirelessly to maintain order with his limited number of Civil Legion troops.

Defenses

Bastor currently has no usable defensive fortifications. Two broken watch towers stand out past the docks where the recent hurricane left them beyond repair. The local Lawmaster and a small troop of Civil Legion patrol the streets but are clearly overwhelmed. In an emergency Mi'r Oenya may be utilized as a secure location.

Industry & Trade

Traditionally the city thrived on exporting regional specialties, including Bastor's own dippleberry and Shelter Lake's jade-eyed trout. In the past year, Dondarian food caravans have not visited Bastor, resulting in a severe lack of supplies. In recent months, local sailors have been able to make a prosperous exchange with Leng due to a rising population of marine life. The Port Hadim Aquafarm serves as the primary source of fish in the city. Nevertheless, Mi'r Oenya's burgeoning tourism industry is still regarded as Bastor’s primary revenue source for now and into the future.

Guilds & Factions

Kamihikari Guild of Bastor. The elves of the Kamihikari Clan run the guild post for the Tritos Dominion out of Bastor. Before its status as a guild, the clan had long-established roots in the city thanks to their history of trade and Mi'r Oenya. The elves of the Kamihikari Guild run the operations of the resort, as well as work to further their interests within the country.   A main base of operations for the Kamihikari Guild of Bastor can be found within the entrance of Mi'r Oenya, as well as a small greeting operation by the docks. The guild keeps mostly to itself and does its best to stay out of town. Locals view them with a swell of mixed emotions, either envious of their success or grateful for their aid.

Mi'r Oenya Security. Mi'r Oenya Security guarantees only the finest protection for guests and visitors. Drawing from the collective talent of their home country Leng, all security personnel have been hand-selected for their unmatched martial and arcane skill. During times of crisis in nearby cities, Mi'r Oenya's guards are occasionally contracted to provide additional support.

Port Authority of Bastor. The Port Authority of Bastor is responsible for monitoring all trade in and out of the city. The organization is a more recent addition, prompted by Duchess Augusta Charmont, seeking to aid during the current struggles. The locals find the additional monitoring troublesome and often ignore the efforts of the authority.
