Shelter Lake

Shelter Lake is a farming community of the Tritos Dominion. Thanks to its distance from the capital, the town is both a common settling point for those seeking simplicity, and the launching point for those looking to escape the common life. The town rests in a lush countryside, settled beneath the Emerald Wood to the north, green year round. To the west is a large fresh-water lake that the town shares its name with.   Generations ago, a devastating fire swept through Shelter Lake, leading to its partial reconstruction. Today, a distinct line divides the town, with the well-traveled road winding through stone foundations on one side and wooden structures on the other. The stone section is known as 'Old Town.'   Despite this history, the townsfolk pay little mind to the divide; life carries on seamlessly across both sides. As you approach or leave Shelter Lake, the road curves gracefully around the water's edge, where cheerful waves from boaters bobbing near the shore are a common sight.

Geography

Shelter Lake is built on the edges of a large freshwater lake of the same name. To the north is the Emerald Wood and to the south numerous small farms surround the countryside. The land is hilly but mostly open plains, halted only by the woods.

Demographics

The majority of the townsfolk are crafters, farmers, fishers, and laborers. The people are friendly but hope to stay out of the way of those in power. A large portion of the population lives in the countryside and on farms miles away from the town.

History

Shelter Lake is old by most modern standards. It was founded during the formation of Innex, which is now the Tritos Dominion. The town has stood through most everything as a solid foundation for the kingdom. It suffered from dragon attacks during its founding, frequently in the path of Scaborous the Pure.   The region is suffering from sudden change. Though the Demon War left Shelter Lake relatively unscathed the political conflicts in the southern region has completely altered farming. The Yarrow Valley, now owned by Serawa, provided a major source of food for the Tritos Dominion. Demand on the smaller farms has grown exponentially. Across the water, the town of Forhold has had a partnership with Shelter Lake since its inception. With the recent change in borders, disputes about the lake have begun to cause problems with fishing and trade.

Government

Shelter Lake falls under the rule of the King of Ania, leader of the Tritos Dominion. Regionally it is run by Baron Druceff who oversees the countryside. The Baron resides in Dondarian, leaving the local rule to Lawmaster Teft.

Crime

While the Civil Legion doesn't have a heavy handed presence in Shelter Lake, a few bandits occasionally think the townsfolk are easy pickings. A well-kept militia, led by Lawmaster Teft, handles whatever theft or vandalism occurs. If anything escalates beyond that, aid is sought from the garrison in Dondarian.

Defenses

Shelter Lake relies on armed citizens for defense. The guard post on the southside of the lake is a last line of defense, but is now under the control of the nation of Serawa. The Lawmaster handles most disputes.

Industry & Trade

The majority of exports are fish and lumber, including the unique greenwood from the Emerald Wood. Local crops are transported through Dondarian instead of Shelter Lake.
