Guilds of Purpose

The Guilds of Purpose is an extremely private collection of potion makers spread across Dromaria with a headquarters in the city of Will, found in the Thorn Territory. They specialize in the creation of magically crafted scrolls, formulas, tonics, and other life-saving concoctions. Because many of the guild’s practices border on the illegal, they require a need for absolute privacy. To outsiders the Guilds of Purpose are a mystery, employing an unknown number of members, hidden agendas, and alchemical secrets.   Four different sects make up the Guilds of Purpose: Alchemical Life, Alchemical Death, Magical Life, and Magical Death. Each sect has a leader in charge of keeping their knowledge protected from the others. To secure this confidentiality, members work separately, with each portion of the formula known to only one sect or individual. Maintaining a need for collaboration ensures no one ever has access to all of the guild’s secrets at once and instills a sense of camaraderie in the members.   Over their 300 years of business, the guilds have grown significantly, sharing their miracles with the world. As demand has risen, every nation has taken notice and worked with the Guilds of Purpose in some capacity. Fearful that such exposure will risk the guild’s nature, leaders of the past have been reclusive. However, the current leader, Eremite Terrence Junius has made a concerted effort to change these ways, ensuring a steady flow of medicine to those in need.
Origins of Purpose
The guild’s origins are centered around its founder, Patience “Pat” Viali. Pat began to produce potions in an attempt to heal herself from an unknown affliction. Whatever potions she didn’t use, she left outside her home. The medicine worked so effectively that desperate people began to gather. In response, Pat locked herself away, but still left her potions outside.   By the time Pat cured herself, it is said she had developed over 1,000 potions. When she emerged, it was to gather others and teach them. Where her home once stood, the city built a small keep in Pat's honor called Bastion Nesta Ma’r, also known as “The Gate of Patience.” Pat lived 200 more years, officially forming the Guilds of Purpose and creating the foundations for what exists today.

Major Players

The ranks of the Guilds of Purpose are as follows: Eremite, Solvent, Potion Master, and Chaperone.

Terrence Junius

Neutral Good, Male Human   Eremite Terrence Junius is the current leader of the Guilds of Purpose. Born and raised in the city of Will, Terrence was the child of two Solvents, prepared for his position since childhood. By the time he was twenty Terrence had risen to the same rank as his parents. When the Demon War struck the Thorn Territory Terrence lost all of his living relatives. In the years since he has dedicated his entire life to saving those he can.   After being raised to Eremite, Terrence has shifted the Guild’s focus toward an open and helpful future for all. He has met resistance from most of those beneath him, wishing to maintain the secrets that have been hidden for so long. To appease the elders, Terrence has lifted restrictions on experimental techniques, pushing for further progress, and returning the Guilds of Purpose toward a less solitary nature.

Ceronius Eith

Lawful Evil, Male Elf   Ceronius is a student of tradition, believing in the basic fundamentals of alchemical science. His refusal to adapt to modern techniques has made him an outcast among his peers. Despite this, his ties to elven royalty in Leng have allowed Ceronius to maintain his position and clout within the Guilds of Purpose. Through his connections, he has risen to the rank of Solvent, overseeing foreign trade.   Throughout his life, Ceronius has traveled across the whole of Leng promoting the Guilds, making sure they are present in the elves' minds. As his role has developed, Ceronius has become responsible for maintaining both elven relations and storing reagents from across Leng. He has worked out of a large warehouse within Kerithal for almost 100 years.

Nancy Tek

Neutral, Female Human   Chaperone Nancy Tek is considered the backbone of the home-office. She is the leader of the Chaperones, heading oversight of bookkeeping and personal relations on a global scale. Relatively new to her post, Nancy has taken to it quickly, instilling her methods and demanding compliance from those beneath her.   She works from the guild's headquarters, based in the city of Will. Nancy greets visitors, ensuring that the visibility of guild operations is minimal. She has no qualms telling guests to leave and can become openly hostile towards those who get out of line.

Jamp Jeriah Whistletop

Chaotic Good, Non-binary Gnome   When Jamp was young they were afflicted with a wasting sickness. The elves of Mi'r Oenya tended to the child and did their best to ease the pain. Dandanowin Lin, an Anointed of Serithell visited and spoke to Jamp of the elven traditions, specifically the art of song and the Calling. The child became obsessed, asking everyone to sing for them and began to practice music on their own.   As Jamp turned ten their health took a turn. Believing the end was near, Jamp asked the elves to help them create a final song known as the Nyellindeli. The elves provided a Song Stone, and Jamp Whistletop recorded a beautiful performance, encompassing the entirety of their short life, and an obsession for hearing other’s Nyellindelis was born.   Fate took a turn when Jamp turned twelve, and the Guilds of Purpose provided a remedy that would save many lives. While Jamp continued to practice music, the life-saving drugs became a new focus and the gnome set off to learn. Moving to Thorn, Jamp became embroiled in education, eventually transferring to the College of Chords in Graetis to finish their schooling.   Jamp was recruited by the Guilds of Purpose and has risen the ranks, now head of Research and Development. Their role has grown significantly; no other individual has access to as many secrets in the guild structure as Jamp Jeriah Whistletop.   A longtime music lover, Jamp still collects every old instrument and Song Stone they can get their hands on, always hoping to find a lost treasure. Jamp rarely leaves the confines of their workshop, becoming more and more reclusive as they age.

Sawbones

Chaotic Good, Female Goblin   The Guilds of Purpose recruited Solvent Sawbones during the Demon War. Originally from the goblin town of Crammin, Sawbones became a wartime surgeon across much of Pathriam. Known for quick action and willingness to travel into the most dangerous areas of the war, Sawbones gained a reputation as a go-getter with great ambition.   Following the conflict, Sawbones went from surgeon to Solvent, becoming a delegate for the Guilds in their homeland. As the need for leadership grew, Sawbones was sent to the Slatetop Post, where they now work as head of distribution and product transfer. When the nations of Frijring and Serawa seceded, Solvent Sawbones was traveling and has since been stranded in the city of Forhold. Her role has been significantly impacted and must be done through expensive Secured Slatetops.
