In his monastic cell, the Malkari deity, Bako, sits alone, immersed in The Calling through focused meditation. Bako embodies discipline itself, mastering not just martial prowess, but also his physical and spiritual self. Free from the clutches of aging or sickness, Bako resides on the planet Malkari, ever ready for his next student. Numerous Ancestors sought wisdom atop Bako's mountain peak, with some finding his methods harsh or peculiar. Bako, a paragon of patience, has seen many pupils grapple with challenges. He imparts his teachings to those steadfast in their commitment, lifting their understanding of The Calling and its ties with the world around them to new heights. Over time, the decision of Bako to remain on his home world has led to a gradual fading of his prominence. His name is rarely heard beyond his own people and those who seek The Calling. Those who succeed in comprehending Bako's teachings gain self-mastery through martial discipline, pushing the boundaries of mortality to reach enlightenment or "bala'neta." This is achieved by following the eight disciplines known as Bakodo.
Modern Depiction
Ancient illustrations on the Path of the Ancestors show Bako as a youthful Malkari male with a long braided top knot and a flowing, silky beard, usually meditating or delivering stern lessons to a student. However, as Bako's memory has dwindled over time, he is now typically represented by an assortment of unusual symbols depicting the eight disciplines or in the martial demonstrations of the Malkari.
