Narwel

"This savior, like a much-awaited rain, will offer respite, yet it will not be the gentle, nurturing water that merely quenches the thirst. No, it will be a deluge, a tempestuous storm, as powerful as it is necessary. It will uproot the old, reshaping the terrain, sweeping away the lifeless husks and sowing seeds of new growth in its wake.   Its effects will be twofold, destruction and rejuvenation, as is the way of the storm. Its actions will be criticized by some, hailed by others, but the tide of change it brings will be undeniable. It will cleanse and heal, but it will also demand a price. For rebirth is never without pain, and the land, like all living beings, must endure its throes before it can emerge anew. So it has been foretold, so it shall come to pass."

Description

There is a hum in the heart of a sailor hoisting a sail, a call resonating within a triton exploring their ancestry, and a desperate plea whispered by a shipwrecked survivor drifting upon open waters. These are the reflections of faith in Narwel, the goddess of prophecy, seas, and storms. Sailors, sea-dwelling folk, and descendants of Malkari, in particular, are drawn to her guidance and protection.   Despite the dominant following from maritime communities, Narwel is recognized and revered by nearly all faiths as a mighty prophet, her teachings often co-opted and reinterpreted to serve personal religious agendas. Her presence is an undeniable force, inspiring awe and fear alike. She brings prosperity to fishermen with calm tides and abundant seas, yet her wrath once scoured Dromaria for a century.   Narwel was a strange and alien presence even to the ancient Ancestors and her ambitions and motives are unknown to all but the tritons. To understand Narwel is to follow one of the fundamental foundations of life. Her value to the early settlers and the balance she brings to the seas and rains of the world are undeniable.

Modern Depiction

Narwel's form is mutable, often depicted as an ethereal fusion of flesh and sea, shifting to mirror the observer. Holy symbols associated with Narwel are varied, featuring elements like tridents, lightning, clouded skies, and portraits of a fierce maiden with seaweed hair.

Narwel Worshiping Adventurers

Worship of Narwel isn't confined to established temples or churches. Instead, devotees honor her at various shrines or bodies of water. Sailors and fishermen often offer prayers for successful voyages and plentiful catches, while farmers appeal to her for rain and forgiveness during droughts. Mages and fortune tellers say a prayer to Narwel for permission before using magics to gaze into the future.   Those who are a part of the adventuring lifestyle typically adhere to the same traditions, offering tribute and prayer to their goddess whenever possible. They are likely found owning vessels or traveling to far off places.
Goddess of Prophecy, Sea, & Storms

Why would you choose this faith?

Her followers are often druids, fighters, rangers, sorcerers, and warlocks, who find their purpose in her tenets.   If you find your heart stirred by the ebb and flow of tides or the whisper of prophecies carried on the waves, you might find solace and purpose under Narwel's watchful gaze.
Backgrounds
Characters from many backgrounds may find themselves following the path of Narwel, but those who follow paths linked to the sea and Tritons are the most likely.
Holy Symbol
Narwel has two known holy symbols. One is a trident made of lightning, dating back to the tritons departure during the Age of Horror when Narwel was a more wrathful deity and was commonly feared.   As faith in Narwel has returned over time, it came with the new symbol of The Tempest, a crystal ball holding a storm raging within. The trident has since faded into history, but most sailors and many clerics bear the symbol of the crystal ball, inking it on their bodies as a tattoo or wearing it as an amulet.   Tritons seldom wear holy symbols of Narwel, as their closeness to her is well known.
Associated Religions
Narwel is present in many religions due to her prophecies. She is mentioned in texts of Illumination, Lothoren, the Path of the Ancestors, and Summertide, although her creeds are not specifically followed in those faiths.
